The Dempster Highway was named after Cpl. W.J.Dempter R.N.W.M.P, who, in February of 1911, went to find
The Lost Patrol. The highway is about 760km of mostly gravel and mud that goes all the way from Dawson City to Inuvik. It was 8 days of georgeous scenery and, at times, interesting driving. We also spent an extra day in Inuvik so that we could take a quick fly-in day trip to Tuktoyaktuk. We wanted to get a canoe outing in the Arctic Ocean but, as we couldn't find a canoe in Tuk, we decided to go for a quick swim instead! On arriving back in Yellowknife, we spent a day driving up into Kluane National Park for some big mountain scenery.
